G/1775/S cipher 18 August. TOP SECRET.

One. Reference 18183/P of Aug 150929 not to Troopers

regarding probable availability of three or four Halifaxes

have today seen Wedemeyer who will welcome this and any

other material assistance we can give in connexion with

relief of POW and internees in China. Desirable that

British aircraft which will presumably be based in Kunming

should be self supporting there in POL and service.

Americans will never help us out with POL in forward areas.

In this connexion am giving POL highest priority in present

hump lift. Awaiting your confirmation of availability

earliest.

Two.

Wedemeyer appealed for our assistance in

providing shipping especially hospital ships for evacuation

from China of Allied POW and internees. They will be

welcomed at any suitable port China coast as soon as

situation permits. Can we do anything to help.

Three. Am informed that dropping of recce parties

food and medicines on all known camps in China has already

started. Wedemeyer informed me personally that six officers

have dropped Aug 16 near Mukden camp but have not yet opened
